The field trip out to Waiheʻe was a lot of fun. I had a unique opportunity to go into the this water tunnel. Before the trip I was excited because I would be able to see water that hasn't seen the light of day anywhere from 9 months to 15 years.

Malama Honua took an excursion out to Waihe'e to meet up with the Board of Water Supply and tour the Water tunnel. Waihe'e is located on the Eastside of Oahu, Waihe'e is commonly misnamed with Kahalu'u which is the valley over but when the state was dividing up the island they decided to stick with Kahalu'u so people would not get confused.

Waihe'e water tunnel is also referred to as a dike tunnel was built to capture water in the mountain to distribute out for the Windward community. The Board of Water Supply had this tunnel built in the 1950's and has been running ever since. This tunnel was dug out of the face of Koolau mountains and tunneled 1500 feet.
